1. Portia Sinnott shares her path to activism as a single mom, and her focus on recycling. She talks about the goal of Zero Waste to tackle the landfill problem affecting most counties in the USA. She gives simple things we can do as consumers and while sorting our garbage from recyclable materials, or when choosing to have a drink without a plastic straw.
About our Guest: Portia Sinnott serves as Program Director for Zero Waste USA and the Editor for the Northern California Recycling Association. Also, a self-employed Zero Waste advocate consultant, she co- leads and takes part in cutting-edge projects across North America and Europe. Her favorites include development of EPA’s “Managing and Transforming Waste Streams – A Tool for Communities” and the Nestle’ Purina Headquarters Zero Waste Plan.
Portia is an advocate for living lightly on the earth she is co-founder and executive director of LITE Initiatives aka LITE. A Sonoma County/California based activist group LITE’s programs include Car-Lite, Zero Waste Action – Sonoma County and Community Bikes in Santa Rosa. A member of the Sonoma County Local Task Force since 2000, Portia helped lead the recent Zero Waste Sonoma County (ZWSC) Initiative that, if passed, will result in the entire county committing to Zero Waste by 2030.
