About our Guest:  Shekeyna Black has been the Center Coordinator of the Peace & Justice Center of Sonoma County for 3 years. She grew up in Los Angeles County and moved to Sonoma County in 1986 to attend Sonoma State University where she earned a degree in Theatre Arts. She went on later to earn another Bachelors in Organizational Management and a Masters in Entertainment Business. She is passionate about music as a way to connect people from diverse backgrounds. Additionally, she has her own business called A Miracle Production that produces bands, concerts, festivals and events. She does bookings and publicity for shows at Redwood Cafe in Cotati. She is the Director of Entertainment for the publication, Upbeat Times. She is a mother to four adult kids.

2. Dr. Jacqueline Lawrence talks about the free Racial Discussion Group  that she will be facillitating at the Santa Rosa Main Library this evening, Monday, August 27 at 6:30 PM.  Dr. Lawrence has written and produced plays on slavery to help both white- and black-skinned people to understand the roots of racism and the racism we assumed into our subconscious from our growing up.

About our Guest: Dr. Jacqueline Lawrence, grew up in Santa Rosa and earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Tuskegee University, and Masters in Theology and Doctorate Degrees in Christian Counseling from Sacramento Theological Seminary. An author, playwright, actress, singer, and Founder and CEO of Legacy Showcases, a black history production company which features Heiress Choral Group, pop up museum, theatrical presentations, workshops, and events, Lawrence is dedicated to reviving the legacy of her enslaved ancestors and providing reparations to her people in the areas of education, empowerment, and inspiration.

1.   Nora Villanueva talks about her journey into radio and the broadcast of her weekly show Classical Tones beginning in her homeland Peru, where she as a young girl was so inspired by seeing a performance of Swan Lake that she studied classical training in ballet and became a professional dancer.

About our Guest: Nora Villanueva is a former principal ballerina in both Peru & Columbia. Nora has also instructed ballet since the age of 16. After winning a one-year scholarship in London Nora was invited to participate in ballets in Aberdeen, Scotland and Havana, Cuba. Classical, modern and folk music have always been in the repertory of the ballets she has performed, and she has danced classical during her entire ballet career.  Since 2014 Nora has volunteered at KBBF in the office and doing the Community Calendar and news. Since January of 2017 has hosted the Tonos Clasicos (Classical Tones) program and a guest on the Caminos Indigenas program Sunday afternoons.

2. Dr. Ellen Barnett shares her journey into integrative medicine and the development of the program Imagine You in 2000. It is a program that offers people the opportunity to step back, regroup, take a moment to acknowledge where they are, and envision what is next (tomorrow, next week, next month, next year) for themselves. Such reflection has been found to be beneficial in the healing process.

About our Guest:  Dr. Ellen Barnett  has her California Physicians and Surgeons License since 1982. She was a former Physician Assistant Supervision and Certified Balint Leader – American Balint Society 2002-present. Among her many medical degrees and certification she managed to  study Journalism/Communications USC and holds a Bachelors Degree in Social Science from UC Berkeley, She has a background in Educational Planning and developed the Imagine You project.  Since the inception of the program in 2000 people across the spectrum have participated in an Imagine You class.

Guest 1.  Judy Kennedy recounts the dismay at seeing the mural honoring local community activists streaked with grafiti from rival gangs in the area and rallying the community for support in making the mural wall presentable for the annual Juneteenth Celebration which was to occur with the stage using the mural as a backdrop.  The temporary fix Judy came up with used poster size copies of the  photos of the honorees in the mural (See photo below.) The mural is now being restored by the original artist with a grant that will fund apprentices in the Art Quest program.

Guest 2.  Sugar Laytart discusses the increasing participation of women in what has become a male-dominated cannabis industry.  Women Grow was founded a year ago for women to network and encourage each other as they transform the industry and will celebrate its first anniversary on July 7, 2016 with a special Networkng Event that will honor Lynette Shaw, the Godmother of Cannabis, for her 18 years of persevering in her healing work amidst the stress of fighting the Federal government in the courts until she was vindicated earlier this year in an historic victory against the DEA raiding medical cannabis dispensaries.

Guest 3. Fabiola Razo is a contestant in the 2nd Annual Miss Latina Wine Country Pageant and a recent graduate with her BA in Women and Gender Sturdies at Sonoma State Universtiy. Fabiola describes how she was attracted to enter the contest and the benefits she has received from support in realizing the beauty and gifts she and the other contestants are bringing into the community as young Latina women.  Fabiola and the other contestants will make an appearance at the Oaxaca in the Wine Country Community Cultural Festival on July 3 as a prelude to the grand Pageant on July 10, 2016 at the Graton Rancheria from 4-6 pm.
