 Our Featured Guests

1.Connie Madden shares her journey into activism and the eventual co-founding of the Sonoma County chapter of Pachamama Alliance. Connie will be one of the facilitators of the Drawdown Workshop to be given on Thursday May 9 at the Arlene Francis Center.  Paul Hawkins in his book Drawdown lists 100 solutions to help turn around the Climate Crisis in which people can get involved and this will be presented at the workshops. Connie emphasized that for  Pachamama whole systems thinking is important; you can’t fix the planet and its culture without deep understanding of the links between all living beings. Connie encourages us to read Charles Eisenstein’s book Climate: A New Story on regeneration with justice and resilient neighborhoods.

About our Guest:  Connie Madden has been an activist since age 5 when her Mom had her delivering fliers for Adlai Stevenson. While in college she started a Students for Democratic Society chapter and she helped former Gov, Jerry Brown do a local radio show on radio station KPFA. Along with her partner, Wayne, and others, she started the Sonoma County chapter of Pachamama Alliance. The group has been giving The DRAWDOWN workshops showing solutions to global warming with justice with the goal of presenting the workshop in each city in Sonoma County. With her partner Wayne she lives on Oasis Community Farm just outside Petaluma where they have a great community barn they use for dance, theater, political and music events, and for family and farm to table dinners.

2. Sabra Briere and 3. Kathy Johnson share how they came to be active in the group Indivisible – Sonoma County Chapter that realy came to life after the election of 2016 of Donald Trump.  The mission of Indivisible Sonoma County is to mobilize and organize people locally by connecting them with the political processes to fight for equality and justice.Sabra and Kathy and other volunteers of Indivisible telephoned folks, especially those who have not voted in awhile, to encourage them to register and to vote on key issues. Those districts that were once solid Republican in Orange County, for example, shifted to elect Democratic candidates who campaigned to resist Trump’s agenda, much through the efforts of Indivisible calls from its chapters across the nation.

About our Guest:  Sabra Briere a former Ann Arbor, Michigan, resident, moved to Sonoma County last year. Prior to moving here she was a member of the Ann Arbor  City Council. She immediately became involved in the community and joined Indivisible Sonoma County at their first general meeting in January, 2017 and currently sits on their Advisory Council. She is active member of the local Democratic Party, and volunteers for the City. Sabra is passionate about free speech, education, the environment, and civic responsibilities and brings her energy and her insights to our local issues.

About our Guest:  Kathy Johnson retired after 32 years of service for the Social Security Administration and although political activism is fairly new to her she has always tried to be an engaged citizen and voter. She has been an active volunteer in her church and for several local non-profits but in November of 2016 her focus changed and she saw that political action was the best way to influence change and became part of Indivisible.
