1. Pam Chaffin first shares how her love for volunteering grew, especially her work earlier as a CASA advocate for an orphan. Pam talks about the mission of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) to “empower women and girls through advocacy, education, philanthropy, and research.” Its 170,000 members and its staying pwowser since 1881 have enabled a new online program to be launced called Work Smart Online at its website https://salary.aauw.org/ to teach women how to negotiate when applying for jobs. The Santa Rosa Chapter of AAUW sponsors 7th Grade girls to attend a Tech Trek at the STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) Camp at Stanford. About our Guest: Pam Chaffin is a native of Long Beach, California. She moved to Sonoma County to attend Sonoma State University and would call it home. She retired after 42 years teaching preschool through third grades, specializing in early childhood education, adult education and language development. Her last 25 years were teaching kindergarten through third grade for Santa Rosa City Schools. Her volunteer activities include being a CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate), Bouverie Nature Preserve docent, working in the grandchildren’s classrooms, and Public Policy Chairperson for AAUW Santa Rosa. She is the proud Grandmother of two grandsons and one granddaughter.

2. Roberta Teller shares her path to being an activist encouraging story telling and safe places for communication, having learned much from teaching children. Roberta started her radio show Wise Woman Storytelling on KOWS 92.5 FM as she started asking what it meant to become an elder. She has recently co-founded the Social Justice Cafe at Ner Shalom in Cotati, which features the theme Immigrant and Refugee Rights on Sunday October 27, 12:30 – 2:15pm lunch followed by the panel discussion.
About our Guest: Roberta Teller is a retired teacher and school principal. Her career and world view was inspired by the hundreds of children she taught who inevitably demonstrated their thoughtfulness, insightfulness and infinite wisdom. Today, Roberta tutors at her local library, hosts her program Wise Woman Storytelling on KOWS 92.5 FM, travels extensively, loves working with beads and is a dedicated meditation practitioner.
